Interracial marriage popular among overseas Chinese

Chinanews, Beijing, July 18 C Latest statistics reveal that young
generations of overseas Chinese prefer interracial marriages. However,
their parents feel difficult to accept their marriage.
When the first generation of Chinese immigrated to Australia, only
10%-20% of them chose to marry people of other cultures. While for the
second generation, this rate increased to 40%-50%, and the third
generation, nearly 70%.
A 2004 survey of interracial marriage in Canada shows that some 44
thousand couples are composed of the black and white, which was the most
popular kind of interracial marriage, and that more than 31 thousand
overseas Chinese have white husbands or wives, many of them from
Vancouver.
Parents of these overseas Chinese usually hold traditional Chinese views,
and are worried about their interracial marriages contradicting family
disciplines.
Qu Muqi, director of Chinese Family Services of Toronto, said Toronto was
now a melting pot; where different races and cultures were mixed and
developed together. But some traditional Chinese families in Toronto
still opposed their children's interracial marriages. He suggested these
parents should give guidance on interracial marriages to their children
early when they were still teenagers, for when they grew up and started
dating, they would paid no heed to advice from their parents.
